Masseur Remarks: Thank you so much for great review! I'm really glad you gave New York massage therapists another chance and found your way to me!! I do know what you mean, though, having been a disappointed client time and time and TIME again!! I've always said that nobody should ever go into the massage business just for the cash. Sadly, I would say that 99% of the guys that DO go into it in major cities, like New York, are in it specifically for the cash, and not for a love of massage or a love of their clients. You can always tell pretty quickly when reading their ads or talking to them that they're not really there for you, they're there for themselves. But then again, some of them are smart enough to give the illusion that they actually care about you as a client when reading their ads, only to get there and find that you're nothing more than another paycheck. I love being the guy who is different - the guy who TRULY cares about his clients and works very very hard to make each and every appointment special and memorable. But I've decided this is something that's either in your heart to give or not - you can't teach it. I'm thrilled with the success that I've found in my business, but MUCH more important, what excites me and keeps me going day to day is what joy I find in meeting my clients and sharing this amazing massage experience with them. I love being the guy that may seem "to good to be true", and actually can (and will) fully deliver on the promise that my ad and my website gives to be something truly extraordinary. But that comes from being sure to limit myself each and every day on clients so that you guys all get the very best of my energies, and it comes in dedicating myself to making every appointment I take the most extraordinary experience I can, and treating each and every client as if they're the most important person in my life. And while you are here with me, on my table, trust me - you truly ARE the most important person in my life. I'm so happy that you mentioned feeling welcomed the moment you walked in. Masseur Remarks: I'm so incredibly touched by your review... and it means the world to know that all the things that I think are so important in my work, are things that meant just as much to you. I find that so many of the guys here that advertise make it SO much about the sex appeal that they forget the simple part of being a kind and loving welcoming person for their clients. I mean, nothing wrong with sex appeal! But there's got to be something more than just that. There has to be love and compassion and care... starting right with the first call or e-mail... and extending to the moment you walk in the door. That huge hug that I love to give right after you come in for your appointment is to let you know that you're truly wanted here... that you're going to cared for and cared about. I know a lot of clients are nervous prior to their appointments - nervous that the therapist might be a scammer, nervous about being touched in this way for the first time, nervous about not knowing what to expect... so many things that I know go through a client's head prior to coming in (as I've experienced myself often as a client myself). So that "blast of positive energy" (love your words on that! Thanks!), is a way to reassure you that you made the right choice with me. And to let you know that I'm going to take you on a very special journey that is all about you. I like you to know right from the beginning that it's your time and that my focus is 100% on you... that my heart is 100% into you and our time together. I'm glad you feel that after my work, that your standards are extremely high - I strive with EVERY appointment to raise every standard (even ones that I set with a client on a prior appointment). That's why I only take limited clients per day - so that you each get the best of my energies. I love that you were taken to another universe! What a great compliment!! I can't always promise that, as I do keep myself limited to just a few clients a day, so that everyone gets the best of my energies. But if I do have the energy and the time to truly devote to giving you an extraordinary massage, then I'll do everything I can to accommodate a last minute request. Plus, you sounded like such a great guy in your very upbeat and friendly texts, that I knew I would love meeting you... and I was right about that! You're right - I never did watch the clock - I never do during my appointments. They are truly untimed. I just take it slow and make it right and make it special. This idea of "untimed appointments" is so unique, and as nobody else in this industry that I know of does such a thing, most clients new to my work are surprised to find out that I really didn't watch a clock during our time together. I'm often as surprised as the clients when, after the session, we look at the clock and see that it's been as long as it has. But while I'm with you and focused on your body and on caring for you, the ticking of the clock means nothing to me (unless you clue me in ahead of time that you need to be finished by a certain time). I, myself, hate when I get a massage the guy tells me he couldn't get to important body parts, or that he's run out of time and can't finish certain parts of the work. With me, that simply won't happen when you book the full appointment - nor will you get an additional "fee added" because it's gone even longer than expected. I think a truly great massage should just simply take as long as it needs to. No rushing... no skipping body parts... but simply taking my time and working naturally through the body so that when we're done, we are truly completely finished... ;-) I'm glad you felt the passion in my work... it's a huge part of what I hope you'll feel on the table and I'm so touched to know that it's been felt as strongly as it was intended. So I'm glad we had a little time on the phone to chat so that you could come to the appointment feeling a little more at ease that I really was the real deal and not one of the vast numbers of "fakers" that advertise. I'm always aware that these appointments aren't cheap, and that there's a bit of a investment on the part of the client, so it makes me incredibly happy to be able to deliver one of the highest quality massages that you can get in the city! What I didn't realize at the time we chatted on the phone was that you had just seen a "text only" version of my ad and were choosing me 100% on what I wrote, and had no idea what I looked like. So it was incredibly flattering when you came in and told me how happily surprised you were with my looks. Still blushing from that! But thanks! Glad you were happy to see who was on the other side of the door! I'm really glad that you felt so at home right away, as that is hugely important to me. I'd like for my clients to feel that they're in the home of an old friend and not a complete stranger - so I try to set that tone as early on as possible when you arrive - hence the big hug and the conversation, etc. I loved that you mentioned that my work aroused all of your senses and left you seeing stars. I truly enjoyed all of our e-mails and conversations leading up to your appointment (unlike so many other therapists out there, I actually enjoy getting to know you and enjoy looking forward to meeting a new client, so thank you for the wonderful correspondence!). I'm so sorry about your father, and I hope you know that I send you all of my best wishes as you deal with life without him. I'm so touched that you shared so much with me about him during our appointment, and I count you as one of the lucky ones to have had such a wonderful relationship with him that lasted SO many years! And no worries about the late review! I completely understand that life can get in the way. I'm just so incredibly happy that my work made such an impression that all of these months later you're thinking to write a review. I always like to say to all of my new clients, that you won't just get a massage with me, but you'll also walk away with a wonderful memory and a huge smile, both of which will last for a very long time. Believe it or not, I actually get e-mails and texts quite regularly from clients who either have moved out of town, or were visiting, sometimes years after their original appointment, to tell me that they still think about it and have such wonderful memories. And I also get a few of those e-mails from clients who blame me for setting the bar so high that no other massages they've gotten since have compared. That's what I love about this work. Every time a new client (or a regular, for that matter), comes into an appointment, it's a chance for me to excel and be better than I've ever been before. I challenge myself to set the bar SO high that nobody could ever compete with the memory. And then I get a wonderful review like yours and I'm reaffirmed that what I'm doing is very right. I'm also touched that you mentioned my compassion. It's a part of who I am - deep down in my core. The massage business is sadly littered with therapists who either have no compassion at all, or don't bother sharing that side of themselves with their clients. But without compassion and a deep caring for the person on the table - and I mean TRULY caring, not just faking it - then you shouldn't be in this business. I knew during our time together that I couldn't change what was happening in your personal life, but I wanted to do everything I could to alleviate that stress, and to help you to just fully let go. To be free of "real life" for a while, so that you could go back to it feeling re-energized and strong again. Holding you in my arms at the end, I remember looking down at you as you dozed off, looking like an innocent child in my arms and I knew you had been able to let go for a little while. I loved that moment. It's one of my favorite moments in the massage. I've never known another massage therapist - even the really good ones - who take time to cradle and hold their clients after the "finale". I think it's vital. And it's a wonderful way of instilling in you as we draw the massage to it's conclusion that you're not alone at all. Hollywood and the media and gay culture has sort of defined for us what is (and isn’t) sexy, but the truth is that “sexy” comes in all shapes and sizes! I simply don’t believe in judging my clients, except to judge what’s inside of them. You are the perfect example of someone who may not be what Hollywood or modern gay culture has deemed “sexy”, but believe me, you have a wonderful sex appeal of your own and are so incredibly lovable and easy to be affectionate with. And I love that you got to experience feeling that way with me. That’s honestly why I’m in this business in the first place! I get an incredible amount of joy from making people feel special. And I get a lot of joy and satisfaction from doing a job well! I will never understand the massage guys out there that do half-assed appointments, and basically scam clients out of their money and then can justify it with themselves and feel ok about it. The things you list in the beginning of your review, are SO important to me: along with the actual massage being of the highest quality and expertise possible (which I'm able to deliver due to my incredible 2 years of study and accreditation at the Swedish Institute), being able to also make it a "spiritual experience, and a positive mental experience and a physically uplifting experience, delivered with kindness and warmth" (to paraphrase you), is exactly what I strive for with each and every client. And I try to make each experience as personal as possible. And to know that I had a hand in helping you to take that step towards not being scared anymore, and helping you to find the love inside yourself FOR yourself, is such an honor. I know that realizing after many years of marriage that you weren't straight, was a HUGE hurdle in your life and a great cause of stress. And I know the fears you had about exploring this new side of you, and the issues of how primary the gay community tends to make things like physical looks and body type had you feeling insecure. But I hope, through me, you were able to feel like the beautiful man that you are - both inside and out. And to take it easy with yourself and allow yourself to feel good about where you are right now. Not to say that there's anything wrong with your goals of weight loss and fitness, but the fact that those are goals for you and something you're looking toward, and not something that comes overnight, I still want to encourage you to realize that you're perfect and beautiful just as you are. I love that I only book a limited number of clients each day, so that we can HAVE that untimed experience - so that I can make it right and make it special and NOT miss anything that needs attention. You, as an athlete, especially need massages that take the time to get everything right and work every muscle of the body. I'm impressed and inspired by what you told me of your training sessions, and although the outside picture (your body, I mean) is quite beautiful, what lays under the skin is a very challenging set of muscles and tissues and joints that need a high level of skill to be able to work through properly and effectively. Being trained at what I consider the top massage school in the world, has luckily given me those skills. And I'm thrilled that you enjoyed it so much. Masseur Remarks: This review means so much to me. Genuine care and affection is SO important, and sadly, SO rare in this business. As I've written in many other follow-ups to reviews: I'm a client myself. And I know how incredibly amazing it can be to have someone who not only has the training and the skills, but also has a warm and open heart that is extended on a very personal level to the person on the table. It's tough to find guys that encompass both sides of that coin - no matter where you go. I've had massages in most of the major cities in this country, and I know exactly what you mean - and what other clients mean when they tell me the same thing. Whenever someone asks me about going into massage, the first question I ask them is: "do you genuinely care about other human beings", and the second question is: "can you put aside your own needs for an extended period of time and truly open up to care about the needs of another human being, regardless of their age, looks, race, body type, or personality?". If they say no, or even hesitate in answering either of those questions, I immediately tell them that massage is not right for them. Which is invariably followed by their protest of "but I hear the money is SO good". To which, I explain that money should be the very last reason to go into this business. I tell them that the clients will know in an instant if your sole objective with them is to earn the cash. As for me, I decided a LONG time ago, that a massage simply should not be timed. I can't imagine saying to a client "I'm sorry, we didn't have time for such and such body part today", or ending a massage before you finish working on every part of the client's body. I got a massage last week, and the guy forgot (or chose not) to work on my scalp and my hands and forearms. Two parts that I very much need and enjoy having worked on. But he had "run out of time" and said "we'll get to that next time". Changed the whole dynamic of the appointment. So I won't do that with my own clients. Our time is OUR time and it'll take as long as it needs to. And I know when you realized, at the end of our appointment, how long we had gone, how surprised you were that untimed really DID mean untimed... the look on your face was very sweet and SO appreciative - and made my efforts SO worth it. But honestly, how could I care about my clients and their welfare and stop before I'm finished with the work? Or rush you through a body part just because the clock is ticking? Spa's do have to do that, and guys who cram their schedules full of clients also have to do that (especially the guys who have low prices and count on volume to make the money they need to live on). But as for me, I love taking limited clients and having the ability to always take it slow and always make it special and memorable. And having a client like you realize at the end, that YOU mattered enough to me to make it right and make it special, is an incredible reward. I've spent countless hours on the website, and one my biggest goals is that you feel just as you said you did - that you have an idea of who I am and what I'm about. And I'd also like to think that the ease you felt with me was started with you reading my site and feeling like I'm a human being and not just a mysterious face picture with a few short words that say "I'm the best. Come to me". I really want you to feel like you know me and are comfortable with me even before you arrive. And greeting you with a hug, in my mind, just solidifies that. Erases the mystery, so we can feel like we know each other and can feel comfortable right from the get go... And I'm really glad you enjoyed the variance of pressures. Nothing worse than going to a guy who basically says "this is what I do, suffer"! As a client myself, I've had times where I've been pummeled to death, and other times where it's been barely a back scratch. And the truth is, the body and the muscles needs varying pressure throughout the massage. And that pressure will change every time I see you, based on SO many factors - not just the tightness of the muscles, but where your comfort level is, etc, at the time. One of the greatest joys for me in this work is being able to "transport" a client to a special place (to use your word), and thankfully my vast training and experience allows me to have the skills to do that. But it's all about the opening of my heart throughout that allows you to soar on the table, as opposed to feeling like you're being transported on a rickety bus across cobblestone streets... I know exactly how you feel - I too have tried way too many masseurs in this and other cities, and it always seems to be one disappointment after another. At times you almost feel like you'd be happy to settle for "satisfactory", as opposed to these guys who push you through and rush through appointments, don't know what they're doing, or just simply don't care about the human being lying on their table. That's why I truly love what I do - because I can come through where all of the others fail and finally give clients all that they hoped their massage experience would be. I'll never forget my first sensual massage (as a client) - which turned out to be an absolutely HORRIFIC experience (will write about that on my website, on my "My Massage Experiences" page soon, as I'm often asked about it). But the nerves of experiencing this new kind of thing, and the anticipation and excitement and hope that goes into it - coupled with that little voice in the back of your head saying "why am I doing this? is this one of those 'to good to be true' things?". And then, after what seems like endless searches through ads, you finally decide who you want to see. And then there's all of the lead up to the massage itself. I always remember that every time I talk to a new client, and every time a new client comes through my door. I'm always very aware of the nerves, and the anticipation... and the hope. Which is why I immediately open my arms once we're into my apartment for a huge hug. I want you to know that it's all going to be ok - better than ok... and to feel, as soon as possible, that you're with someone who REALLY wants you to be there, and is very much looking forward to OUR time together. So many massage guys forget that: it's about us, our time together. We've all been to (or heard about) the guys who have the "you're lucky I'm touching you" attitude.
